Hope that you have had a good vacation and are ready to head back to school. 13% of the regular class days for the fourth quarter are already completed. We have a five day week of classes this week. A new Sunshine Math is ready to go and will be due on Friday. Also, a new POW will be passed out mid-week. The new textbook will be passed out on Monday. Chapter Five will take us into some lessons on geometry. Hope that you have gone over your report cards and unit test with your parents and set goals for the final quarter of middle school. You have seven more Mondays of school till summer vacation.

Week of April 8th
The three days of classes this week make up about 12% of the teachable days for the fourth quarter. The month of May looks very busy. The entire 8th grade has now finished the first half of the textbook and will be receiving their new books after vacation. In order to make these days meaningful, all classes are going to be taking a test on the first four chapters on Tuesday. Students need to practice taking longer tests in preparation for the mid-terms and finals that they will be facing next year in high school.

Week of April 1st
Last week of the quarter and I thought it would be a full week, but there is a concert on Wednesday afternoon.
Monday, we will go over Lesson 9. POW #12 is due on Tuesday and we will finish reviewing the chapter. Chapter 4 test on Wednesday, hopefully for all the classes. Thursday, we finish up getting anyone through the test and wrap up the quarter on Friday. We will be taking one more SBR test somewhere towards the end of the week. Hope that you had a good conference and that all is well.

Week of March 25th
As I feared, last week was a short week and this week is even shorter. We have three days of classes and then a half-day on Thursday, when we will be seeing the play. Friday is a conference day, with no school. Then five days the following week and the third quarter is over.
Monday, we will be going over the SBR test from Friday and the in-class Sunshine Math. We will start reading Lesson 8 and practicing the problems. Tuesday will be spent finishing up the lesson. I will also be passing out the last POW of the quarter, that will be due the following Tuesday. Wednesday, we will be taking a quiz on the second half of Chapter 4, Lessons 5 - 8. Have a good week.

Week of March 18th
With the start of Spring on Wednesday, I was hoping for a full week of classes, but we shall see what Mother Nature brings us on Tuesday. Monday, we will be starting Lesson 6. Regardless of the weather on Tuesday, our POW is due on Wednesday. We will covering Lesson 7 later in the week. Friday we will be taking our third SBR Test of the quarter. If you have been earning a score lower then you would like, it would be a good idea to practice the problems. You have a binder full of the last 10 tests. We will not be completing a Sunshine Math sheet during the week, but will be doing it as an in-class activity on Friday. There are three weeks left in the quarter and conferences are at the end of next week, so there are only three days of classes and a half day, when we will be seeing the play. Keep your shovel handy.

Week of March 11th
Hope to have another five day week of school this week. Lost a hour of sleep on Saturday night, but everyone should be well rested by Monday morning. We will be going over your SM from last week and getting a new one, due on Friday. The rest of class will be spent reviewing for the quiz on Lessons 1-4 and SBR test that will both be given on Tuesday. Wednesday, a new POW will be passed out, we will go over the quiz and start Lesson 5. We will be working through this lesson and maybe the next for the rest of the week.

Week of March 4th
Well, lets hope that we can get five days of classes in this week. Monday, I will be passing out a new Sunshine Math sheet, that will be due on Friday. Tuesday, we are taking an algebra readiness test that the high school is going to use as part of their placement process. There is no study guide for this test, but students should get a good nights sleep and come to school prepared to do their best. Wednesday, the next POW is due. Friday morning, the headmaster from GHS will be speaking to the entire 8th grade. If your math class is missed, please still turn in your Sunshine Math. During the week, we will continue to work our way through Lesson 4. Stay well.
